There are no small actions

For many of us, our hearts hurt. We see and hear so much hate, so much violence. We see and hear it on the streets, in the news, and from our supposed leaders. We are grieving. We are grieving the dream of democracy in need of intensive care. From our neighborhoods to our world, we see pain and tragedy.

We may want to hide, bury our heads in our hands and weep. Then weep if you must and rise again. Rise again as you have done time and time again throughout your life. Resilience is your identity.

So today, take a step out into the chaos. Your love and positivity will make a difference. Be engaged to your level of comfort. Take small steps. Connect with a friend, call a loved one, support a child, thank a teacher, take a walk in nature, take a bath, or go for a swim. Your compassion, empathy, prayers, mindfulness, and hope all make a difference. There are no small actions.

Be gentle with yourself and others. Love is our healing power. Ask, as Viktor Frankl in Auschwitz’s did, “what is being asked of me?” Follow the calling.

Send love, speak love, be love.
