The long goodbye

I leaned into the rails on her hospital bed. Tears streaming down my face. Great gasps of grief closing my throat. In this moment of knowing the end was near, there was a light of awareness that soon she would be released from a lifetime of physical pain and ascend to limitless peace. We were at the end of our long goodbye.

The long goodbye from the first diagnosis, the countless seizures, the life giving surgeries, the long recoveries, the medicines, the treatments, the experiments, and the grace to witness her transcend every challenge.

This was our sacred moment.
