“To allow oneself to be carried away by a multitude of
conflicting concerns, to surrender to too many demands, to commit oneself to
too many projects, to want to help everyone in everything is to succumb to
violence. The frenzy of the activist neutralizes
his or her work for peace.” – Thomas Merton
Every time I read this piece, I am humbled. I am aware that even though I am blessed with
Divine Grace, I only have two hands and one heart. I am human and I can only do what I can do,
and that’s enough. I have often been
caught in the trap of not wanting to say no.
I truly like to help. I like how
it makes you feel, and I like how it makes me feel. I still need to be careful of those times
when I say yes for your approval. That
is not healthy for me. Sometimes saying
NO is the greatest act of love.
